Impact Evaluation of the SLATE–Rotary Educational Intervention
at GRFTVHSS, Thevara
NPoC was the RAAR (Review, Audit, Analysis, and Research) team, which conducted an in-depth evaluation of the S.L.A.T.E–Rotary intervention at GRFTVHSS, Thevara, a government fisheries school in Kochi, Kerala. The intervention was aimed at 150 students from grades 8th to 12th. The evaluation aimed to assess the educational and institutional impact of a multi-component educational initiative implemented with support from the Rotary Club Greater Cochin.
The project introduced five key components: Gamified Math, Curiosity-Driven Learning, Career Guidance, Academic Tutoring and a Learning Resource Platform. Together, these interventions aimed to improve student engagement, academic performance and exposure to future pathways.
The evaluation was guided by the OECD DAC framework, which enabled a systematic review across six criteria: relevance, coherence, efficiency, effectiveness, impact and sustainability. Our team developed tailored questionnaires for each intervention, ensuring alignment with the school’s context and the needs of the students.
Using a mixed-methods approach, we conducted surveys, focus group discussions, and semi-structured interviews with students, teachers, and collaborators. The telephonic surveys were carried out with the support of the SLATE-RAAR volunteers, and data collection was designed to uphold ethical standards, including informed consent and confidentiality.
This evaluation reflects NPoC’s commitment to producing grounded research. By translating field data into actionable insights, we continue to help partners scale interventions that are context-sensitive, student-focused and impact-driven.
