Volunteer Capacity Building under the THRIVE Project

As part of our ongoing commitment to building grassroots leadership and community impact, NPoC partnered with the Kerala Youth Leadership Academy (KYLA) under the THRIVE (Tribal Higher Education and Interactive Ventures for Excellence) project to lead a volunteer capacity-building initiative across Kerala.

The programme focused on training college students, drawn from a variety of academic backgrounds, to work closely with students from Kerala’s Model Residential Schools (MRS). These volunteers were expected to serve not just as facilitators, but as mentors who could bridge critical attitudinal and aptitude gaps faced by tribal students.

To prepare them for this role, NPoC designed and delivered a structured capacity-building programme centred around three core modules:

  • Understanding Personality, Attitude, and Self-Awareness

  • Skills and Opportunities for the Future

  • Resume Building and Leveraging LinkedIn

The training combined self-reflection with practical tools, encouraging volunteers to think critically about their own aspirations while equipping them to guide others. Emphasis was placed on communication, career orientation, and developing a growth mindset.

What made this intervention particularly impactful was its layered approach. While the MRS students benefited from mentorship and exposure, the volunteers themselves gained skills in facilitation, leadership, and career development. Many reported feeling more confident and purpose-driven after the training sessions.

For NPoC, the THRIVE project reaffirmed our belief that investing in people, especially youth, can create powerful ripple effects.
